If not—or you can`t prove it is—your landlord could withhold your security deposit, which could cost you thousands of dollars. To retrieve your deposit, you`ll need to document the condition of your home, including taking lots of detailed photos and completing an inspection checklist (PDF) when you move in and out. Take steps to prove the condition of your residence before you move in so you don`t get stuck!
